(ring, £9.50, vintage)
i know £9.5o is a lot to spend on one thing in a vintage store, especially on something like a ring. you can normally get coats or dresses for that money! but it is honestly such a pretty ring, and it was the only one in the shop that fitted perfectly, without looking like an engagement ring. it's a gorgeous blue, the colour hasn't come out very well in the picture, and it's hallmarked sterling silver, so i suppose it isn't so bad really. it's such a charming little shop, everything's so haphazard and just lying about everywhere; you really have to rummage about to find things. it's owned by these lovely sweet old lady, who managed to do herself out of about three sales from me, after telling me certain items weren't that good quality or whatever. of course i listened, but i couldn't help regretting having to leave behind a gorgeous 1920s beaded clutch bag, for only £8, as she told me the thread was coming undone and a lot of beads were coming loose. after a rifle through various baskets, i found this pretty little china brooch from switzerland, for only £1. it's quite unusual and the colours are lovely, it makes a change from a normal gold or jewelled brooch.
(brooch, £1, vintage)
my last purchase before i had to leave was found when i was inspecting a roll of coral lace - something weird to sell in such a store, but i thought it might look nicely on something customised at home. but i thought better of it and was sold on the first shiny thing i saw. typical me! it's this old-fashioned scarf clip, probably something like my nan would have, but i thought it would do to make my winter pashminas look a little more interesting. the photo doesn't show it so well but it has a lot of detail in it, including raised floral shapes underneath the pearl-esque centerpiece. at only 50p i have to say i couldn't leave it there!
(scarf clip, 50p, vintage)
for the life of me, i can't remember what this store's name is, or even the owner. but if you're ever in ellon, take the opportunity to try and find this shop, it's just along from catwalkers, inbetween an estate agent's and a chemist, i think. it sells absolutely anything you could imagine, except clothes, of course, but for any kind of accessories or jewellery, it's definitely worth a look!
